DT editor a bold face

		DT editor a bold face

Editor's note: The following is a Daily Texan -30- column. In the typewritten days of the newspaper industry, "-30-" dentoed the end of a story. A -30- column gives graduating staff members an opportunity to reflect and speak their minds. For the past year, The Daily Texan readers have most likely known me as no more than a bold-faced name at the top-right corner of the Opinion Page - a faceless, easy target of negative energy concerning issues in the Texan and the world around us, a media contact for activists or promoters with agendas, a listening ear for idle prisoners looking for pen-pals.

The Firing Line: 5/5

Abstinence works The article in April 28's paper on the Texas Freedom Network event seemed to focus entirely on the supposed flaws in abstinence-only sex education ("Alumna to attend screening of sex-ed film she inspired"). Flawed as these programs might be, they work.

Viewpoint: Unwritten rules of college athletics

Either the media is at the feet of college athletics or college athletics are at journalists' throats. There's no in-between. Last month, The Daily Texan reported on its blog that the Austin Police Department suspended an assault with injury investigation in which Longhorns backup quarterback John Chiles was a suspect.

College students will do anything for a free T-shirt.

My freshman year at SFA, "Girls Gone Wild" came to Nacogdoches at The Lumberyard, a bar downtown that closed a couple of years back. While I did not attend the event, I had a few friends who did, drank too much and played a part in a "mini-movie" they now regret.

The definition of identity

As Polonius put it, "We are oft to blame in this, 'tis too much proved, that by devotions visage and pious action we do sugar o'er the Devil himself." I am always amazed how people can get away with saying any sort of offensive or audacious claim, when people add to it that it is in their religion.

It's over, and it's been great

How did I spend my final moments at SMU?

Watching "Barney" in my advanced broadcast journalism class on Tuesday morning.

You could make the argument that it's everything coming full circle, from childhood to adulthood.

But I think it just shows how random my time here has been.

Letters don't tell the whole story

As active members of Phi Delta Theta, we were disappointed that Dr. Lori White purchased a $1,200 advertisement in the April 22 edition of The Daily Campus that, along with a letter from Dr. White to the student body, contained two anonymously published letters, one which depicted student misconduct at the 2008 Phi Delta Theta Casino event.
