A robbery took place on Monday in the Northgate area, and the suspects have not yet been apprehended, said Lt. Mark Langwell of the College Station Police Department (CSPD).

The victim, Ahmed Satriano, was walking in the parking lot of the Casa Del Sol Apartments around 9 p.m. when he was attacked from behind, Langwell said.

"(The victim) heard somebody running from behind toward him," Langwell said. "He turned around, and he briefly saw two white male subjects. They tackled him to the ground, and they pulled his shirt or sweater over his head so that he couldn't see them."

The suspects ran off with Satriano's wallet and his cell phone so he was unable to call the police himself, but he was able to yell to a friend who called the CSPD for him, Langwell said.

"They told him to give them what he had, and they reached in and stole his wallet and his cell phone from his pants' pocket," he said. "Then they ran off."

Satriano received minor abrasions and emergency medical treatment was not required, according to University Police Department (UPD).

The case has been turned over to CSPD criminal investigators, Langwell said.

"We checked the area and didn't locate anybody," he said. "This has been turned over to the criminal investigation here - that's our detectives, and the investigation is ongoing but there's not a lot to go on as far as suspect information."

Will Hailey, speaker of the Student Senate, said improved safety measures will soon be implemented in the Northgate area because the College Station City Council has enthusiastically responded to the Student Senate's request to improve safety.

"(The city council has) already agreed to add lights and emergency phones," Hailey said. "They'll add it into this fiscal year budget. They don't have a timetable on it yet, but it should happen this semester."

Hailey said the Student Senate also requested sidewalks in the Northgate area, specifically around the Casa Del Sol Apartments, but the city council did not agree to that measure at its last meeting.

"It wouldn't happen this semester, but that's something we're still going to push them for," Hailey said. "We're also going to try other avenues. That's something that's not a lost cause; it's something that has to get done."
