Cemetery for Aggies in the works

Issue date: 11/22/06 Section: News
Fallen Aggies will soon have a place to return to in Aggieland for burial. The City of College Station is in the development stages of a Field of Honor cemetery tract that will be the final resting home of former students, faculty, spouses and friends of Texas A&M.
The cemetery will be on 56 acres at the northwest corner of FM 2818 and Raymond Stozer Parkway. The Field of Honor will use only 20 of those acres with the remaining 36 acres used for a general municipal cemetery.
There will not be restrictions on who can purchase plots, and officials will be meeting to discuss plans for monuments and price ranges, which will be set by the College Station City Council. The city will pursue licensing agreement with A&M to use insignia and trademarked symbols and phrases, but the University will not be involved in operating the cemetery.
The city is still in the design process to develop a master plan for the overall layout of the cemetery, but pre-sale of the lots will begin to determine the amount of interest.
