Texas A&M's Office of Collegiate Licensing has decided not to send a cease and desist letter to Rival Wear requesting them to halt sales of the "saw 'em off" shirt with an American collie silhouette, said Mike Huddleston, assistant vice president of business development.

The office was in the process of sending the letter to the Austin-based apparel company, The Battalion reported Thursday, because the collie bore a resemblance to Reveille, a registered trademark of the University.

Huddleston said his office started to reconsider after speaking with The Battalion and looking at the Rival Wear website.

"It just so happened that after the interview, I started evaluating the T-shirt graphic in further detail," Huddleston said. "We decided not to send the letter."

The call was made late Wednesday night because the T-shirts did not meet the criteria necessary to pursue the letter. The shirts did not feature "University colors, an accurate depiction of Reveille as a mascot, and didn't contain any other identifying marks," Huddleston said.
