Jessica Ann Brigham, 19, was arrested Monday night at the Delta Zeta house after admitting to possession of 2.4 grams of cocaine during a police search of the house.
On Tuesday afternoon at 1:37 p.m., the sophomore business major was released - after less than 24 hours in jail - when the bail of $7,340 was posted.
"That really surprises me," said junior accounting major Lorraine Smith. "We went to high school together and she was such a nice girl. We had a lot of the same classes - she always seemed smart and really straight-arrow."
The police report stated that while College Station Police officers were executing a search warrant at the Delta Zeta house on Olympia Way, Brigham, who was questioned by the officers at the house, revealed 2.4 grams of powder cocaine in her purse. The police report also stated that along with the narcotics, Brigham also held with her a straw in her pocket that police believe could have been drug paraphernalia.
Brigham was charged with a third-degree felony with possible punishment ranging from two to 10 years in prison and a fine up to but not exceeding $10, 000.
Delta Zeta President Dana Endres said the case is still under investigation and that all business is being held in confidence within the chapter house. Beyond that, she declined to comment.
