On Sunday, the No. 16 Aggie basketball team made a statement with a come-from-behind win on the road at the Ferrell Center in Waco, defeating No. 14 Baylor, 63-58.

The win inched A&M to within one win of something that head coach Gary Blair said he only thought of in his dreams when the season began: a regular season Big 12 championship and the top seed in the Big 12 tournament.

"We're like the little team that could," said Blair. "We've got a lot of weaknesses - including the head coach."

As expected by Blair and the rest of the team, defense made the difference, as the Aggies held the Bears to 33 percent shooting and did not allow any three-point basket. Star forward, senior Bernice Mosby, scored 24 of 58 points.

"In the first half they didn't trap me," Mosby said. "At halftime they made an adjustment to cover down on me. It was kind of physical in there."

One of the keys for Baylor coming into the game was their point guard, junior Angela Tisdale, who had been leading their high scoring offense to winning nine of their last 10 games. Against the Aggies she scored eight points on 2-13 shooting, include 0-6 from the three-point line.

Sophomore forward Danielle Gant led A&M in scoring with 22, 18 of which came in the second half, on 9-11 shooting.

"Coach told us at halftime our post players were scared," Gant said. "I came out in the second half to show him I was not."

Takia Starks, the Aggies leading scorer coming in, also took charge in the second half, scoring all of her 14 points after the 13 minute mark in the second half. Starks hit a shot with 5:40 left in the game to put the Aggies on top 55-54, a lead which they did not relinquish. Gant and Starks accounted for all but three of the 35-second half points for A&M.

"To come on the road and get a win like this, I'm kind of speechless" Starks said.

The win lifts A&M to 22-5 on the season, and they remain tied at the top of the Big 12 with Oklahoma at 12-3, who beat Missouri. The loss drops Baylor out of the tie at 11-4 in conference, and they fell to 24-5 on the year.
