Corps of Cadets Company A-1 seniors Jada Ching, Jeremy Duggins, Micah McDonald, Seth Urbanek and Robert Tuttle present former president Robert Gates with his Corps senior boots March 14 at the Pentagon. The Corps raised money to purchase the $1,200 boots, and the Corps of Cadets Association purchased an inscribed glass case for them, as well as providing financial backing for the trip to Washington, D.C. The inscription on the glass case reads "As the president of Texas A&M University you led with conviction and wisdom. As a man you live with courage and humility. We are indebted to you. Texas Aggie Corps of Cadets, 'Keepers of the Spirit'" In a break between meetings with the Iraqi president and Chinese secretary of defense, Gates was surprised with his boots in his private dining hall by the cadets and former Aggies who now work in the Pentagon. "He put them on with us, and then we got e-mails from him later telling us how excited he was," Duggins said.
