Derek Devine and Connor Prochaska celebrate with friends early Friday morning in Academic Plaza.

Groups of supporters yelled, jumped and cheered as Election Commissioner Jim Reed, perched next to the statue of Sul Ross, announced the 2007-08 officers of the Texas A&M student body. The supporters of those who lost stood still or cried in the dimly lit Academic Plaza.

Conner Prochaska and Derek Devine are the candidates heading into a runoff election for student body president, beating out six other candidates.

Prochaska, a senior political science major, said there was a tough competition between all the candidates, because they are all good, competent people.

"There were eight amazing Aggies (in the race)," he said.

Prochaska said his campaigners are the reason he came out ahead.

"It's like being a turtle on a fence post. You don't get there on your own," Prochaska said.

Devine, a junior marketing major, said he was very excited about his success in being in the runoffs April 4-5.

"It was certainly a surprise," Devine said. "I have three more days to get out there to tell the student body how much we care. (I am going to) try to get them excited about tomorrow and about the potential we have at Texas A&M."

Prochaska said he will tell the student body about what a uniquely great school A&M is.

"A&M doesn't just make you smart, it makes you a good person," he said.

About 11,000 students voted in the elections.

Eric Reed, James Mulvey and Grant Jungeblut won the three seats for senior yell leader. Fletcher Massie and Lans Martin won for junior yell leader.

"It's like floating on a cloud," said Massie, a sophomore aerospace engineering major. "It's a big honor to be chosen by my friends in the Corps and the students at A&M."

I think because the SBP is the face our university, he should be ridiculously good looking, therefore I support Derek.

Where can we find the results for all the other offices?
