Dining Services shouldn't sell out restaurants to other companies

I am writing this letter to voice my strong opinion toward the latest speculation that I have heard about food service changes. First of all, to give you the "down-low," Time Out Sports Deli has been serving hot, good food since the summer of 1995. The deli has served things such as sandwiches, burgers, grilled chicken sandwiches, chicken/beef quesadillas, chicken/beef taco salads, and many other things that have been staples to the business. Back around 1998, Time Out started making smoothies as a trial deal, and it ended up being successful - so much so that two more smoothie shops opened their doors and the total smoothie business grew. The speculation is that Dining Services is selling out their employees and their working receipts to the corporate world, aka "Jamba Juice." This means no more hot food and different smoothies (less variety). Their student employees will be laid-off, which is a shame because Time Out has the best return ratio for student workers and is like a family. I know with all my heart that the reason Timeout has been such a staple in the Aggie Community is the care and customer service that Time Out has so quickly served.

Not to mention that prices will probably go up if they were to take over. Smoothie prices are ridiculous at their stores.

And an increase in price will only mean a higher return for the University on the use of Dining Dollars...

I think the on-campus food is pretty terrible for the most part. My favorite places to eat on-campus are the ones supplied by outside vendors, e.g. Sushi in the MSC. (Continued…)

Bill, you're very right. If you looked at the stats, you'd see that Chick-fil-A is far and away the most popular food establishment on campus (aside from the all you can eat places like Sbisa and Duncan). (Continued…)

I have to agree with Mr. Bauerschlag. I was one of the first student workers at Time-Out and the student supervisor who oversaw the beginning of the smoothie bar. (Continued…)
