The Hawks used the number 11 draft pick to select Law on Thursday night at Madison Square Garden in New York. Much of the early draft went as expected. Greg Oden and Kevin Durant were taken in the top two picks. The Hawks also selected Al Horford from Florida earlier in the draft at the number three spot.
Law leaves a legacy behind at A&M. He led the team in scoring for two straight seasons, took the Aggies to consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, was the first consensus first team All-American selection in school history, and took the Aggies to the Sweet 16 for the first time in 27 years.
Law also became the highest drafted player to come out of A&M. Two players from A&M, Antoine Walker and Sonny Parker, had previously been selected in the first round. Law averaged 18.1 points a game and 5 assists a game in his senior season.
