Transfer Camp, or T-Camp, will begin in mid-August, so camp coordinators are gearing up for the two weeks worth of fun-filled ways to teach incoming students the Aggie traditions.

For students who didn't get into A&M on the first try or who changed their minds halfway through their college career, T-Camp provides students first glimpse into what it means to be an Aggie.

Jessica Arispe, who graduated in May and stayed to work as director of administration for T-Camp, said that camp coordinators are busy preparing for another session.

"We've been making phone calls, sending mail-outs to campers, creating brochures and getting in touch with the campus programs that will visit T-Camp such as Carpool and Rec Sports," Arispe said.

Senior Ashley Coots, a T-Camp co-chair, spent last Thursday at a booth in the Memorial Student Center recruiting students for camp during transfer student orientation.

"Many transfer students don't know about T-Camp so our job to recruit any chance we get," Coots said.

The T-Camp staff has been meeting every week to create themes and colors for each camp and to paint banners and write skits.

"For the skits, we pull ideas from different TV shows and movies that people are familiar with and transform them into something that is tradition based. All our skits must be based on an Aggie tradition," Coots said.

Senior Sara Clark attended T-Camp in 2004 and has been working for the organization ever since.

"I came here through T-Camp and I will leave here through T-Camp when I graduate in August," Clark said. "I didn't even want to go to T-Camp when I first moved here, but I'm happy I did because it's where I made my best friends at A&M. That's what T-Camp is all about."

Some of us like to call it Heaven Week because Hell Week has such a negative stigma... go figure? :)
