Engineering students win car competition

Texas A&M placed first overall in the 2007 Formula SAE West competition. Engineering students constructed and drove the formula-style car entered in the competition. The team received $3,000 for the first-place finish.
The competition is hosted by SAE International, a membership society dedicated to advancing mobility engineering worldwide. It was held June 13-16 at the California Speedway in Fontana, Calif.
In subsidiary awards, A&M placed third in the Goodyear Best Performance award, receiving a set of tires, and first in both the Honda Dynamic Event Award, receiving $1,200, and the Hoosier Tire Autocross Award, receiving eight tires.
Eighty teams participated in the competition, with Auburn University, the University of Toledo and California State University at Northridge trailing behind A&M in the top 10.
