Student athletes should show respect

I am writing to convey my frustration over the presence of student athletes in my ENDS 149 class, which contains approximately 30 student athletes. Over the past three weeks, I have observed complete disrespect and disregard for our professor, Dr. Klein. As a senior, I have never seen such behavior in a classroom. In class, there has been roughhousing, sleeping on the floor and constant chatter during lecture by these athletes. Last week, an athlete left the classroom four times, cell phone in hand, during the lecture. Only after Dr. Klein acknowledged his rude behavior did he stop. Everyday, one female athlete sleeps on the floor with her head propped up by her backpack. There have been numerous incidents such as these. This is unacceptable behavior for a college classroom.
Not only does the behavior give a bad name to all our hardworking student athletes, but it forces the professor to take time out of lecture in order to regain control of her classroom. College is a place to learn, and these particular student athletes need to remember that "student" comes before "athlete."
