By merely completing a quick and easy online application, a lucky Texas A&M business school student could become an MTV-U television star and winner of life-changing prizes.
MTV-U - which is broadcast on channel 55 on campus - is searching for passionate, determined and innovative business students to compete in the third season of "Quad Squad," an "Apprentice" type show for college students.
"The best and brightest will go head to head to compete in marketing challenges," said Ross Martin, the head of programming for MTV-U.
The show's producers are on the lookout for two team captains. The captains will choose four teammates each and lead their teams through various tasks, vying for the top prize: a $5,000 prize package and an internship with Ford Motor Co.
"Competitors will be throwing themselves right in the fire. They won't know any of the challenges until the day they will be completed," said Martin.
Ford will ultimately choose the winner and the type/length of internship will be determined after the show's completion.
"This contest will give college students a chance to compete in a sort of televised job audition," said Mallory Wuerflein, a senior marketing major.
The show will be shot in the fall on the campuses of the competitors. A&M has not yet had a student on the show, but MTV-U feels that A&M students have great potential.
"We have been blown away by students of Texas A&M in the past in other programs," said Martin, who highly encourages the business students of A&M to apply for the show.
Applications, which can be found online at www.mtvu.com/contests/quad_squads/ will be accepted through July 31.
"(The show) sounds like it'd be a lot of fun and a really great opportunity," said Michelle Heard, a senior accounting major.
Martin asks students to think outside of the box when completing the brief essay portion of the application. Since the essay is the only factor in the producers' decision, it is important to be as original and innovative as possible.
"We are psyched to see what comes in from Texas A&M. We have a feeling that students from A&M would be really great," Martin said.
