At 7:30 a.m. on Aug. 19, lines were already forming in front of on-campus residence halls as hall directors and resident assistants finished last minute details. By 8 a.m., move-in week was in full force as hundreds of students along with their parents began filling dorm rooms.

Volunteers in bright green shirts directed traffic, carried luggage into rooms and gave out free water to help hydrate students moving in during the hundred-degree heat. The University loft company, Lofty Ideas, had a line that started over an hour before they began setting up.

Leila Graham, a residence advisor from Spence Hall, said move-in went really well.

"Check-in was easy and everyone worked together to make the process move swiftly," said Graham, a junior early childhood education major. "We are so happy that all of our Spence-Briggs-Keist residents have a room and none of our girls are in study carols."

Katlyn Lovett, a sophomore business major who lives on the Quad, said move-in was coordinated very well on Southside, but that it was difficult to find easy access to the Quad.

Chelsea Young, a sophomore international studies major and an RA in Krueger, estimated that check-in this year ran about 30 percent slower than in previous years.

Director of Residence Life Ron Sasse said things went very well during this year's move-in.

"As usual we had many students come on the first weekend," he said. "We had some great volunteers and great feedback from parents."

Last year, the residence halls were full with ten students in temporary housing, and this year the halls are full with almost 50 students in temporary housing, Sasse said.

"We do have some vacancies so we expect to be able to move all of the students out of temporary housing and into a regular room on campus very soon," he said.

Natalie Rice, a sophomore political science major and an RA in Eppright Hall, said move-in as an RA was a hectic experience, but still a pleasant experience.

"I enjoyed meeting all the residents as they checked-in and I am excited about the rest of the year," she said.
