Friendships are amazing gifts that we should learn to cherish

If anything like that has ever occurred in my life, it would have to be the fact that I have the best friends in the world.
Friendships are so complex and so intricate that it's almost not worth thinking about. Just going with the flow of life is more important to maintaining a relationship than trying to philosophically analyze it.
However, if the gears start grinding in my head, there are some interesting questions pertaining to friendship that I can wonder about - although I don't think they will ever be answered. (Nor do I want them to be.)
I mainly marvel at the fact that we just happen to come upon people we are compatible with.
It would be a joke to actually go out searching for a friend. I can just picture it: a sign posted on a street lamp. "WANTED: ONE BFF. MUST BE KIND, SENSITIVE AND MAYBE JUST A TAD BIT FUNNY."
Realistically, developing fantastic friendships doesn't work that way. But how does it? How do we just happen across people that we find will always be there for us - who love our strengths as well as our flaws?
This past weekend, I went to Oklahoma for the A&M-OU football game, but even more exciting than that spectacular event was getting to see my best friend.
She attends the University of Tulsa, and we hadn't seen each other since mid-July.
When we began talking, we picked up where we left off, just like neither of us had ever been gone.
Our lives have diverged, and we have taken completely different paths, but nonetheless, we were able to sit and chat nonstop for 1 1/2 hours (we could have kept going, but the drive home was painfully long and I had to be off).
She knew just what I would order off the menu, and we laughed unnecessarily hard at several different instances.
When I thought about it later, I really couldn't place where I had met Stefanie, or how we had gone from mere acquaintances to world-class best friends.
