Walking into the It's A Grind coffee shop might seem like walking into a little piece of Aggie history.

Phil Jordan, Class of 1974, and his wife Vickie, Class of 1976, have with them pieces of Texas A&M history. After getting married in college, they decided when the time was right, they would come back to live in College Station.

"I graduated Texas A&M in 1974 with a degree in civil engineering," Jordan said. "I was in the Corps, in the Aggie Band, on the bugle rank. My wife and I have always talked about moving back down here to retire.

"When I got out of A&M, I went to work for what was TXU and is now Lumina. I worked for them for 29 years in different management positions and I took an early out a few years ago," he said. "I decided that I was ready to work for myself and own my own business which has always been attractive to me."

Many factors influenced Jordan's decision to open up a coffee shop.

"No. 1, I want a business that deals directly with the customer. No. 2, obviously I want one that will meet my financial needs. No. 3, I want a business that would work well in a college town environment. And No. 4, I want a business that believes in being a part of the community and giving back to the community that it is in."

"The owners are very sweet and make sure your order is up to par, and the coffee is just as good as Starbucks but cheaper; who doesn't like that?" said Angie Stubler, sophomore business major and frequent visitor.

Great story on the Jordon's of "its a Grind". I work with Vicki in the CSISD and she and husband, Phil are always participating in and donating their coffee and tea to different functions in the elementary school. (Continued…)
