The Delta Sigma Phi fraternity is sponsoring Miss Greek 2008, a pageant based not on looks but involvement. The philanthropic pageant will continue throughout February and the proceeds will go toward local charities throughout the Bryan-College Station area.
Robert Shaw, president of Delta Sigma Phi, emphasized that the pageant was not based on physical appearance.
"It's more a contest of well-roundedness," said senior poultry science major Shaw.
The winner will be selected according to how many points they score in a variety of categories. Such categories will include community service and number of T-shirts and tickets sold, and their responses to a question posed by a table of judges at the ceremony.
Money raised during the Miss Greek pageant will go to the Adam Crockett Tumor Fund, which donates money directly to brain tumor research at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Facility in Dallas.
'Penny Wars' will be added to the agenda as part of the judged events. It will be a contest to see which contestant can raise the most pennies for the Crockett Fund.
Shaw said the pageant will include nominees from eight sororities and aims to raise $3,000.
Voting will be open until noon on Feb. 27 and can be done online at www.aggiedeltasig.com.
