The cities of Bryan and College Station will participate in the Central Texas Multi-Jurisdictional warrant roundup Feb. 18, but have scheduled a warrant amnesty period from Monday to Feb. 15 in order to clear thousands of outstanding warrants totalling millions of dollars.
The amnesty time period allows citizens with outstanding warrants to dodge paying a warrant fee if fines are paid in full.
"If you have a warrant out for not paying your tickets, there is a $50 fee normally attached on top of the regular fines and state fees required," said College Station's Community Relations Manager Peggy Calliham.
After the amnesty period, a warrant roundup will occur on Feb. 18 through March 1. Local law enforcement officials will arrest citizens who have not paid their fines.
"This countywide effort is a perfect way for citizens who believe they have an outstanding Class-C warrant to check with the appropriate court and take care of their business," said Judge Edward Spillane in a news release.
The city of College Station accepts cash, credit cards, personal checks, money orders and cashier's checks, but outstanding warrants cannot be paid for by using College Station's online citation payment system.
