The No. 20 Texas A&M women's basketball team saw a four-game winning streak end Tuesday night as they dropped a 68-56 decision to the No. 10 Oklahoma Sooners in Norman, Okla.
A&M, 5-5 in conference play, held a 32-26 lead going into halftime, but the Sooners regained the lead in the early minutes of the second half, riding two 3-pointers by sophomore guard Jenna Pulmey.
Aggie Senior Patrice Reado, who said after the game that she was experiencing severe migraines throughout, lead the Aggies with 19 points, a career-high for her in conference play.
"It's been a hard night for me," Reado said. "I just wanted to help my team regardless if I felt like I would pass out tonight. I really wanted to help my team try to get this victory. It didn't go the way I wanted to, but I just played through the migraines."
Oklahoma, 8-2 in Big 12 play, was led by Courtney Paris, who with 20 points and 11 rebounds for her 88th career double-double.
Junior Danielle Gant, a native of Oklahoma City, scored 11 points, which ties her career-high against the Sooners.
"That was a great second half by Oklahoma," said A&M Head Coach Gary Blair. "We implored them to play with energy and get into the open court. They did a lot better job of executing their half-court offense."
The loss is the first for A&M in the last three meetings against the Sooners. The Aggies swept Oklahoma during the 2006-2007 season.. A&M is now 2-14 all-time against Oklahoma in Norman, Okla.
"The whole ballgame was simply our lack of pressure defense in the second half and their very good offensive execution," Blair said. "You are not going to win the ballgame with the press. It's going to be won on the half-court defense and half-court offense. It was a great crowd and a great atmosphere tonight."
A&M will return home and look to rebound at 3 p.m. this Sunday against Texas Tech. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN2.
