Walsh, known for her role as Addison Montgomery on TV's "Grey's Anatomy" and "Private Practice," said that students had the power to make a difference in the upcoming presidential election.
"This is one of the most exciting times in political history," Walsh said. "I've never experienced anything like this in a primary."
Walsh has been traveling the country in support of Obama and is in Texas for the upcoming primary.
Walsh said this is the first presidential candidate who has inspired her to speak to others. "I've felt disenfranchised in past elections, this is the first time I felt like I could make a difference," Walsh said.
Walsh said she assumed she would vote for Hillary before she met Obama. "I met Obama at the 2004 Democratic National Convention, and the first thing he did was congratulate me on the spin-off," Walsh said.
After the convention, Walsh said she visited Obama's website and researched his viewpoints. She went to one of his fundraisers and said she was blown away. "I was impressed with how diverse the people were [at the fundraiser]," Walsh said.
Walsh said the success of the Iowa caucus was a huge turning point for her, which was when she decided to campaign for Obama. "Obama got this campaign going at the grassroots level, and I think it's great that young people are getting involved."
"Hope" has been a prevalent slogan in the Obama campaign, which Walsh said inspires her as a call to action.
"People have become cynical about politics, they've lowered the bar," Walsh said. "I think "hope" in the Obama campaign is like a verb, representing action and forward movement towards a change."
