Texas A&M recognizes student employees
Meagan Martinez, a student employee in the office of the Faculty Senate, was named the 2008 Texas A&M Campus Student Employee of the Year at the 10th Annual Student Employees of the Year ceremony Thursday hosted by Scholarships & Financial Aid. Alison Sullins, child care giver for the Lyons family, was named the 2008 Texas A&M Community Student Employee of the Year. Both Martinez and Sullins were selected from among 41 nominees employed both on and off campus. Each recipient was presented with an award and a $2,000 scholarship sponsored by the Association of Former Students.Largest class in history to graduate this May
An unprecedented five commencement ceremonies will be conducted this spring to award degrees to what is expected to be a record graduating class at Texas A&M. More than 5,500 undergraduate and graduate students have applied for graduation during May 9-10 exercises at Reed Arena. A separate graduation exercise will be conducted May 8 for an expected 128 students receiving doctor of veterinary medicine degrees at Rudder Auditorium, noted Registrar Don Carter, who has overseen Texas A&M's graduation exercises since 1987.Student intern learns how government works
Junior Caity Post , an intern with Texas A&M's Public Policy Internship Program (PPIP), is serving an internship with the Department of Defense. The program was established in 1999 by Ray Bowen, then president of Texas A&M, to respond to society's increasing interest and participation in public policy issues and programs. It is coordinated from the Associate Provost's office to work centrally with various colleges and departments to create the interdisciplinary environment necessary for comprehensive academic training and policy programming.Psychology majors win Brain Bowl
A team of Texas A&M undergraduate psychology majors captured the championship in the 11th Annual Brain Bowl Friday, the premier event held at the UT Health Science Center at San Antonio for Brain Awareness Week. The competition, which was sponsored by the Department of Pharmacology's Center for Biomedical Neuroscience. The Brain Bowl is a neuroscience quiz show in which three teams of undergraduates from colleges and universities across Texas compete for prizes and the coveted Brain Bowl trophy. The Texas A&M team was coached by professor Jennifer Bizo. Team members include sophomore Becca Simmons, senior Juliana McElroy, senior Ryan Gilbert, senior Alex Wyckoff and junior Jeff Mayse.Texas A&M News & Information
