Many football coaches have a common belief that during a football game, the team should stick to the field and fans should stick to the stands.

Texas A&M's Head Coach Mike Sherman disagrees. Attendants at Saturday's Maroon and White game saw two A&M students don headsets and join the team on the sidelines in what could become a tradition.

Courtney Roland, a freshman agricultural communications and journalism major, and Joseph Delgado, a junior communication major, were chosen by the team to stand on the sidelines for the annual spring game after viewing the videos of eight finalists who sought the opportunity.

For Delgado, the opportunity seemed so surreal that he almost didn't believe it.

"I heard about it while having dinner with some friends," Delgado said. "Somebody brought it up, and I didn't actually believe them. I got on AggieAthletics.com, looked at it a bit more and saw that it was the real deal.

"I was talking to one of my friends who was on the team last year … [and] he said, 'You should do it.' We got together the next day, shot a video and submitted it. The rest is history."

In order to convince the football team that they deserved to wear the title "coach" for a week, Delgado and Roland competed with other Aggies by submitting videos in a YouTube format, in which they made their case.

"I sat down and explained to the coaches and the team why I wanted it and why I'd be a great coach," Roland said. "I've been part of the Aggie Spirit since I was 2. I love sports and getting a different whole perspective, one that I will always remember."

While Roland's message came from her heart, Delgado made his point with something that many guys can agree on: breaking stuff is cool.
