The Johnny Blanco band will perform for what Class Council hopes will be an impressive turnout at Boot Dance 2008.
"Since the 1920s, Boot Dance has been a tradition at A&M involving the junior class. In the past, all of the students were in the Corps, and it was held every year after Final Review," said Ashley Schoonover, a junior international studies and Russian major and director of Boot Dance.
"It was the first main event that the new seniors would wear their boots to after their second pass at Final Review," she said. "However, since the University opened its doors to non-reg students, the dance then began to involve cadets and non-regs alike."
She said there will be commemorative gifts for the class of 2009, in addition to various raffle prizes, which will include Benjamin Knox paintings and gift cards from businesses in the area.
"All proceeds for the dance go back to the University in the form of a class gift, which was voted on during the class elections this past spring. The gift will be formally announced at next year's E-walk," Schoonover said.
However, traditions do change as the years go by.
"Boot Dance is open to the entire Class of 2009, not just the Corps, a common misconception in recent years," she said.
So whether it be non-reg or Corps member, social butterfly or shy-guy, Schoonover and the Class Council welcomes the Class of 2009 to partake in the night's festivities.
Boot Dance will be 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. May 10 in MSC 201.
Tickets are on sale for $25, as well as T-shirts and picture packages, in the MSC Box Office.
