Batt writer Kara Koloini checks in with Myiesha Gordon, the museum educator for the MSC Forsyth Center Galleries and the museum adviser for the MSC Visual Arts Committee.

1. What does your work entail with the MSC Forsyth Center Galleries, and how did you get involved?

A: I am responsible for developing educational programs at the Forsyth Center Galleries. I am passionate about art and how it permeates our existence and in a practical sense, how we make connections with the past and gain understanding of our world by visiting museums and galleries.

2. What advice do you have for students interested in pursuing careers in the arts?

A: Do something creative everyday and learn about everything. Creativity and innovation are driving forces in the arts and can be seen in so many other industries; it's important to be well versed in a variety of media.

3. What do you think sets Forsyth apart from other art galleries?

A: We welcome students to visit the galleries and really utilize the collections. From location to ambiance, Forsyth Center Galleries is very student friendly.

4. What do you think Texas A&M students could gain from becoming more involved with the gallery?

A: Every student at Texas A&M has something in common, the ability to be innovative. No matter what profession you are pursuing - engineering, geology or veterinary medicine, innovation is the impetus for professional success. By becoming more involved with the galleries, students could gain a greater knowledge and appreciation for the creative process.

5.What are some of the upcoming exhibitions and festivals that you think would interest students and provide them with opportunities to participate?

A: I am so excited about our upcoming programs because they are fueled by student interaction and are a response to a desire for more art related events on campus. One program, a lecture series, provides a platform for Aggies to discuss how their field of study influences their art. We will have students from various academic departments on campus present throughout the semester. Also, another exciting event will include live music by student musicians, live art demonstrations and tours of the galleries. Stay tuned for more information.
