"NiHowdy" Olympics to benefit China earthquake victims

Saturday, the Chinese students and scholars association, in conjunction with the Texas A&M Student Government, will sponsor the inaugural 2008 "NiHowdy" Olympic games at the Student Recreational Center. The games are an effort to raise money to help victims of a May 12 earthquake that struck China. The earthquake caused more than 69,000 deaths and more than 370,000 injuries. "It's a… chance to show what the 12th Man [stands] for, our community," said Student Body President Mark Gold. "This is a great chance for us as students to rise up and help [the earthquake victims…] a chance to not just give back to the world, but to the community." The games will be open to A&M and Blinn students, and will include competitions of kickball, basketball, dodge ball and ping pong. The event will start at
8 a.m. and continue until 9 p.m.
