Texas A&M President Elsa Murano announced Thursday that Friday classes will be canceled as a precautionary measure for the approaching Hurricane Ike.

Tropical storm winds and heavy rain are expected to hit the Texas coast and reach the Bryan-College Station area. Because all campus offices will be closed, only essential security personnel are required to report to work Friday. Investiture and Convocation-related activities planned for Thursday have also been postponed.

Students who reside on campus are recommended to remain indoors, and those off campus have the option of being accommodated at G. Rollie White Coliseum.

Murano also announced that classes were expected to resume Monday.

Let's be hospitable to those who were forced to evacuate, but keep in mind that we live a long way from the coast. (Continued…)
