President Elsa Murano's first official day at the office is Friday.

Academic Convocation and President Elsa Murano's investiture as the 23rd president of Texas A&M, both delayed by Hurricane Ike, have been rescheduled for 2:30 p.m. Friday. The event was originally planned for Sept. 12.

More than 150 delegates from academic institutions worldwide were expected to be in attendance for the original date. The president of Panama was among the guests planned to attend. Jason Cook, the vice president of marketing and communication for the University, said the delegates and guests were alerted to the change in plans prior to reaching College Station.

"We contacted all of the delegates and intercepted them," Cook said.

The president of Panama is not expected to be at the rescheduled ceremony. The hurricane also altered the list of delegates.

"All the delegates have been invited, but with the short notice and effects from Hurricane Ike, not as many will be there as we expected," Cook said. "But many have indicated that they will be there."
