The No. 7 Texas A&M soccer team will face off against the Nebraska Cornhuskers Friday at the Aggie Soccer Stadium.
The 7-5-1 Cornhuskers come to College Station looking to continue its win streak over ranked conference opponents after wins over No. 25 Kansas and No. 8 Texas.
The Aggies are coming off of victories over No. 10 Oklahoma State and Oklahoma. A&M improved to 10-1-1 overall and has not dropped a game to a ranked opponent since losing to No. 2 North Carolina.
"It just kind of goes along with how this season has gone so far," said A&M Head Coach G Guerrieri. "We've played a lot of powerful teams, and I'm really proud of how our players have been able to problem solve throughout the match, and grind out victories. There have been a lot of different challenges from a lot of different quality opponents."
Though the Aggies have not lost a game in Big 12 conference play this season, Guerrieri said that they don't take anything for granted, they are sure not to look past any opponents and they realize that in the Big 12 they've always got to come out with their "A-game."
"It's not downhill from here," Guerrieri said. "Once you get into conference games, you're playing very athletic teams, very well coached teams that are very well organized and that are going to be disciplined to stick to their game plans. There are not anymore easy games. Every game is going to be tough, is going to be physical, and we're going to have to come out and play well.
Senior Laura Grace Robinson leads the Aggies with 5 goals this season. She was named to the Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the Week and was the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week after scoring the game-winning goal against Oklahoma.
Freshman Becca Herrera was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week thanks to two assists in the game against Oklahoma.
After having its five-game win streak snapped last week against Baylor, the Cornhuskers are coming into College Station looking to begin a new win streak, starting with the Aggies.
"Nebraska beat a good Texas team - they just flat out beat them - in Lincoln on Friday night," Guerrieri said. "They have a reputation for being very hard, very physical, and a team that plays hard and physical for the entire ninety minutes, so we can't let up, and having such a young team, that'll be a challenge for us."
