Two hundred eighty-five organizations will be recruiting at the last Open House in the Memorial Student Center before the center closes for renovations.

The spring Open House will be 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday in the MSC.

"The purpose was to highlight the student programs we have to offer here at the MSC," said Memorial Student Center Complex Communications Coordinator Eric Blodgett. "It has evolved of course to hold all student activities."

The fall 2008 Open House included 422 tables.

"Fall Open House is just bigger. Typically we have 10,000 to 15,000 [attendees in the] fall. We're going to print 5,000 directories for the spring," Blodgett said.

This will be the last Open House held in the MSC until the renovation is complete.

There will not be any special events commemorating it so the focus is kept on the organizations and their recruitment efforts, Blodgett said.

Some of the organizations showcasing their talents will include the TAMU Judo Club, the TAMU Belly Dance Association and the Aggie Fiddlers, presented by TAMU Orchestra.

TAMU Orchestra is an organization that facilitates shows for smaller musical groups, said junior chemistry major Kaitlin Burke.

"Tate Pharis started up this fiddling group. They do Irish reels and they also do some country fiddle tunes," Burke said. "Right now they each have solo parts in this group but they're working on making it more of a show with audience interaction."

The Aggie Fiddlers will perform several pieces they have been working on at the spring Open House. All group demonstrations will be held in the Flag Room or outside on the steps in front of the Stark Galleries.

A location for Open House during the MSC Renovation has not been selected. MSCC Marketing is waiting on estimates from potential venues, Blodgett said.

"We don't want people to think because there is no MSC, there's no Open House," Blodgett said.

Student fees keep the cost of using the MSC facilities low for MSC student programs. MSCC Marketing is looking for a venue that they can afford without having to raise the table registration fees, Blodgett said.
