Despite the outbreak of seasonal influenza on college campuses such as Southern Methodist University, Health Educator Michelle Nail, of Texas A&M Student Health Services, said numbers at A&M are about average.

Though flu season is commonly accompanied by cold weather, the temperatures themselves are not necessarily a factor. Nail said the flu is most commonly passed through people not washing hands with soap or not covering their face when they sneeze or cough.

She said taking an adequate amount of vitamin C and keeping the immune system up by eating right and disinfecting hands will help prevent getting sick.

As far as getting a flu shot, she said it's not too late.

"There isn't any time limit on when to get your flu shot," Nail said.

"The flu is everywhere and anywhere."

Get Vaccinated

Student Health Services has about 100 doses of the flu vaccine left. Students can make an appointment to get a shot by going online at shs.tamu.eduu or calling 979-458-8250 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
