MAIL CALL

In response to "Angering the crowd."
The first time I saw Jed Smock was Wednesday sitting in front of Sul Ross. I had heard of these hardcore evangelists, but had yet to see one. I stayed and listened to Smock talk and yell about our problems (rather condescendingly), and the occasional Aggie try to start a conversation with him only to be continuously rebutted - followed by Smock changing the topic. As I walked away, my friend and I were talking about how useless it is to try to "scare" people into Christianity. But then we came to the realization that Smock being here has actually done some good. He has helped unite fellow Christian Aggies. As we stood there listening, almost everyone agreed that we deserve hell, but also deserve love. It was very comforting to speak with other Christians who all felt the same way about this man and what he was saying. It was good to see a fellow Christian making his own sign that said, "God is more beautiful than this man," or someone simply disagreeing with his tactics by speaking out to him, or seeing a group of people praying. This reminded me that I am not alone here at Texas A&M. So thank you Jed Smock, for helping bring us together.
