More than 20 schools will be on hand Friday and Saturday for the Texas A&M Invitational track meet at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium.

The Aggie women's team is ranked No. 1 in the nation and the men are ranked No. 5.

"We will put 60 athletes on the track this weekend," said Head Coach Pat Henry. "Each one of them has a separate goal. Each one of them has something different that we are trying to accomplish with each one of them."

The Aggie men are led by junior Zuheir Sharif, who took the men's weekly Big 12 track and field honor after setting a school record of 53-11 in the triple jump at the New Balance Armory Collegiate Invitational in New York City during the previous week.

"I think Zuheir is going to get better as the year goes, there is no question about it," Henry said. "He lined up and had a great performance last weekend."

Henry said that Sharif is not competing in the triple jump this weekend and there is a possibility that he will compete in the high jump instead.

"We work on the same things day to day in practice anyway, so it's not like you are doing something entirely alien or foreign to you," Sharif said. "The concepts are still there. You are using the same push off and using the same technique but just applying it in a different manner."

This will be the third meet held at the new Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium, which opened in January. Sharif said being able to compete at the new facility presents a special home track advantage.

"It is almost a dream come true," Sharif said. "I have been hearing about the indoor facility for years now and kind of having it built up and competing, it is so metaphysical and so out of this world, that when you see the crowd cheering for you or calling you by name you say, 'hey that's my professor' or 'that's somebody I have class with.' It never gets old, so every time it will be a new experience or at least it is for me personally."
