Four Texas A&M seniors were recognized Monday for work done to aid Hurricane Ike evacuees. Corps of Cadets Commander Jordan Reid, Corps Operations Office Syed Hussain, Cadet Matthew May and Student Body President Mark Gold were honored by Deputy Surgeon General and Chief Operations Officer of the U.S. Public Health Service Rear Admiral Robert C. Williams, Class of '76, during halftime of the Aggie men's basketball game against Texas at Reed Arena. Reid developed safety plans for the Corps and the Quad while working with the U.S. Public Health Service to coordinate volunteer efforts. Hussain aided in the planning and coordination of various relief efforts, including the operations at Easterwood Airfield to transport medical evacuees to Reed Arena. May worked at Reed Arena the week after the hurricane hit, helping staff and patients rather than attending class. Williams also awarded more than 600 cadets who volunteered to help the relief effort with U.S. Public Health Service certificates and uniform ribbons.
