The No. 19 Texas A&M softball team lost 3-2 Wednesday to the Texas State Bobcats in San Marcos, Texas.

The loss gives the Aggies a 5-6 overall record in 2009 and continued a five-game losing streak. A&M has not lost five consecutive games since spring 2000. That season, the Aggies finished with a record of 32-23.

Both teams started the game with little offensive production in the first inning, as the Aggies were retired in order and Texas State finished scoreless, despite a triple by junior first baseman Leah Boatright.

In the second, A&M posted its first run off of the bat of senior catcher Erin Glasco. The right field smash was her first home run on the season. Glasco finished 1-for-2 in the game with a walk.

The Bobcats scored their first run of the evening in the bottom of the third inning.

Senior right fielder Taylor Hall walked with two outs to get things going for Texas State. After Hall stole second base, Boatright singled up the right side, scoring the runner and tying the game 1-1.

The Aggies answered back in the top of the fourth inning with another solo home run, this time from senior outfielder Holly Ridley. Ridley's home run was her 20th of her career, which ties her for seventh all-time in A&M history in career home runs.

The Bobcats struck again in the bottom of the fourth inning when freshman Chandler Hall hit a single and advanced to second on an A&M throwing error. With two outs, junior outfielder Kristina Tello reached on another Aggie error while Hall scored on the play.

In the bottom of the sixth, freshman pitcher Rebecca Arbino took over for sophomore Rhi Kliesing on the mound. Kliesing finished with five innings pitched, allowing five hits, one walk and two runs while recording four strikeouts.

Tied 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Texas State senior shortstop Alex Newton hit a one-out single through the left side. Taylor Hall walked after the single then Newton advanced to third on a wild pitch. Boatright hit a game-winning single to score Newton and win the game for the Bobcats, 3-2.

The loss went to Arbino, who finished with two innings pitched, one strikeout, one earned run and one walk.

The winning pitcher for the Bobcats, now 6-4, was senior Katie Garnett, who allowed no hits and no runs in 4 innings and recorded four walks and five strikeouts.
