In response to Jay Cunningham's mail call about the Aggie Assurance program on Feb. 19:

"The foundation of every state is the education of its youth." - Diogenes Laertius.

The Aggie Assurance Program is an investment in America's future by giving a capable student a degree which strengthens the American workforce as well as increases the tax revenue from this one individual. If the $60,000 annual income requirement is socialist, then let's remove the cap and allow everyone free tuition: financially impossible. OK then, let's deny this program to all recipients and make these lower class students attend third-rate colleges, if college is even financially attainable, even though they are quite suited to be above average Texas A&M graduate. Once hardworking intelligent students are now forced into a situation that puts them at odds against students that could financially attend a premium college institution. Thanks to the Aggie Assurance Program, these students are given the chance to walk to class on this accredited campus among fellow Aggies without anyone ever knowing that their dependents chose to work worthless menial jobs. I love A&M and its altruistic doorways to scholars who are all seeking the rewarding experience of education, no matter what ethnicity, sex, nationality or class.
