The No.11 Texas A&M women's basketball team won its fifth consecutive game against No. 12 Texas on Saturday, 76-65.

The victory propels A&M to a record of 20-5 overall and 8-4 in conference, marking the program's fourth consecutive 20-win season under the direction of Head Coach Gary Blair.

A&M lost the opening tip off to its arch-rivals, but forced an out of bounds by Texas that led to a layup from sophomore point guard Sydney Colson.

The Longhorns answered with a layup as well, but senior center La Toya Micheaux followed with a pair of free throws to give A&M its lead back.

Texas then went on a 10-2 run with a 3-pointer and a cluster of fast break layups. The Longhorns had nine fast break points in the first half.

Though the Longhorns seemed to be controlling the game offensively, the Aggies kept within range because of a large number of turnovers from the Texas team. Texas finished the game with a crippling 29 turnovers, 15 of which were caused by A&M steals.

"The past few games, we've been trying to get back to the way A&M plays defense," Colson said. "If we get steals and everything and finish on the other end, it's a real confidence booster for us."

Down by seven points with seven minutes remaining in the half, senior guard Danielle Gant helped boost the comeback effort for the Aggies. Gant scored eight points in a row to bring the Aggies within one point.

The Longhorns answered with a jump shot at the corner of the paint and two free throws to hold on to its lead.

Freshman point guard Sydney Carter hit a 3-pointer to tie the game at 21-21 and junior guard Tanisha Smith drained a 3-pointer of her own to give the Aggie squad its first lead since the first two minutes of the game, 24-23.

The Aggies kept the lead going into half time with a margin of four points, 31-27. Both teams shot under 40 percent in the first half.

Senior guard and Aggie leading scorer Takia Starks was kept quiet during the first half, going 0-for-6 from the field and recording two points off of free throws.
