In response to the Aggie Assurance mail call on Feb. 19:

The Aggie Assurance program is in no way a disgrace to Texas A&M. A&M should always be willing to give as many people as it can an equal opportunity to come attend this university. Not everyone can afford to attend college and any sum of money can help. The few whose parents would quit working in order to qualify for this policy would be a disgrace, but there are still many honest people who fall under $60,000 and couldn't afford to send their children to this great University.

If Jay Cunningham is speaking of socialism as a society creating equal opportunity for all individuals then so be it, however I fail to see the radicalism of the policy. It is not declaring public ownership of anything, and no utopia is forming as a result of the policy, so what do you mean?

The policy is a state-wide initiative from the legislature which mandates that a small percentage of funds from tuition increases be set aside to support initiatives such as this. So perhaps you should state your argument against the legislature.

I too love A&M and believe greatly in its expanding commitment to low- and middle-income students through this program.
