The top-ranked Texas A&M baseball team will return to Olsen Field on Tuesday for a two-game series against Centenary.
The Aggies are coming off a 4-0 start but Centenary will be opening its season at Olsen Field.
The Gents traveled to College Station in 2008 for a two-game series the week before A&M opened conference play. On March 11, 2008, the Aggies' offense came alive against Centenary senior pitcher Joe Hagen, winning 9-2 on 16 hits.
The team struggled in the second game, winning 3-2 after being held to five hits by Gent's junior pitcher Dakota Robinson. The Aggies came from behind in the game, scoring all three runs in the sixth inning after falling behind 2-0 in the fifth inning.
Robinson and Hagen will face the Aggies again this week. Robinson will start the Tuesday game against A&M freshman southpaw Ross Hales and Hagen will start the Wednesday game against either junior right-handed pitchers Chad Sherman or Scott Migl.
"Centenary has got a good club," said A&M Head Coach Rob Childress. "They came out and played us well twice last year."
Centenary went on to a 30-26 record, marking its first 30-win season since 1992. The Gents returned 2008 freshman All-American pitchers Justin Kraft and Boone Whiting.
The pair were Centenary's weekend starters in 2008, but Kraft pitched 2.1 scoreless innings as a reliever against the Aggies in the second game of the two-game series.
Robinson was 5-3 in 2008, recording a 5.27 ERA and 44 strikeouts. Hagen went 2-5 and posted a 6.50 ERA.
The Gents will look to senior Tim Deering for offensive production. The infielder hit a team-second-best .318 in 2008, knocking nine doubles and 20 RBIs. Centenary will also need a big game out of senior outfielder Steele Lewis, who hit .303 and two home runs in 2008.
Hales, who will start the Tuesday game for the Aggies, pitched against Wright State in the second game of a double header on Saturday. After junior Alex Wilson struck out 14 in 6.2 innings of work, Hales came in and closed the final 2.1 innings, completing the 9-0 shutout.
