MAIL CALL
By: Cameron Smith
Issue date: 2/27/09 Section: Opinion
After reading a mail call response to "Viva la revolution: la sexual revolution," I wasn't exactly surprised. It's the normal response I have come to expect from any devoted (or in my honest opinion, dogmatic) Christian to an opinion that differs from the obstinate beliefs imposed upon them throughout childhood. But after reading the response of Andres Aguilar, I feel obligated to speak up. I am constantly abhorred by the idea that Texas A&M is a conservative and Christian utopia, and that every year more single-minded individuals arrive to foster the all-too-true stereotype. I'm not saying that people shouldn't voice their opinion; it's a free country. But if you're reading the opinion section of a newspaper, don't complain when somebody's opinion is conveyed. Nothing is being forced upon you; in fact, you don't even have to read it. Too few students here speak their mind, constantly fearing persecution by their peers. What kind of a person would discriminate against someone for the simple fact that their opinion differs? I for one am tired of intransigent individuals constantly trying to impose preposterous and delusional ideals at the first sign of diversity.
