In regard to theMardi Gras article in Tuesday's Battalion, I feel speechless, yet at the same time I feel like yelling. I have disagreed with many opinion pieces before, but I've never felt the need to correct a writer. This article was, perhaps, the most blasphemous piece of work I've ever read. Throughout the article, we are made to believe that no morals, promiscuity and getting wasted are perfectly fine. After all, "Jesus...would have been downing hurricanes" if he would have been around today. Really? Is this what Christianity is coming to? Do we try to justify everything we want to do with an excuse that says, "Perhaps Jesus would have said to drink, eat and fornicate in moderation when he was alive." What a terrible disrespect and complete irreverence for God -calling Jesus a sinner. "As Christians, we must bring our religion, and our God, up to date." Really? No wonder the Bible doesn't mean anything anymore: we get to set the rules these days. Maybe the writer should consider reading the Bible again to reflect on what real Christian values, such as purity, love and reverence for God and others, actually are.
