In response to Mardi Gras article on Tuesday:

I disagree with the reasoning for the actions, as well as the behavior itself, suggested by the writer. I don't try to attack those who take advantage of a nationwide time of celebration to eat, drink and be merry, but I do have a problem with those who try to rationalize it with Christian ideas. All too often, I see people who think the limits Christian teachings say we should place on our lives are antiquated or irrelevant in our society. People see abstaining from sex, drugs and alcohol as burdens and difficulties, rather than opportunities for self-improvement and eventually sources of joy. For those who choose to follow a higher path, there is no greater joy than living your life within moral limits. Lent should not be a time of suffering and removal of the things you enjoy, but a time to take a look at the things you do, control the way you act and find true joy and salvation.
