The Texas A&M softball team won its second straight game against the University of Houston 6-2 Friday.

Sophomore pitcher Rhi Kliesing, named the Big 12 Conference Pitcher of the Week Tuesday, secured her tenth win in 2009 after throwing seven innings while allowing two runs on five hits.

The Aggies jumped to an early lead in the top of the first inning behind the bat of senior catcher Erin Glasco. The Illinois native crushed a one-out home run to score two Aggies, building a 3-0 lead.

Kliesing shut down the Cougars in order in her first three innings and didn't allow a hit until the fourth. She recorded a season-high 10 strikeouts, allowed three walks and zero extra-base hits.

A&M struck again in the fourth inning, widening its lead to a six run margin. With bases loaded and one out, sophomore second baseman Natalie Villarreal laced a left field single to score one. Junior Macie Morrow's sacrifice fly to center and a throwing error by Houston scored two more Aggies at the next at-bat.

The Aggies were held to no runs and only one hit in the remainder of the game, a single from freshman outfielder Kelsey Orsak. Orsak was 2-3 in the game, scoring once.

Senior outfielder Holly Ridley, who was Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I Player of the Week Tuesday, went 0-3 on the evening with one walk and one run.

Houston's only runs came in the bottom of the fifth inning off of two singles. Senior leadoff hitter Jessica Valis, second on the team in batting average, was held to no hits and struck out twice.

Senior catcher Elaina Nordstrom led the Cougars at the plate, going 2-3 on the day with two singles.

Sophomore Houston pitcher Amanda Crabtree allowed six runs and six hits in 3.1 innings. She moves to 10-9 in 2009.

The Aggie squad picked up their second win in a row with the victory, and has won 9 out of its last eleven games. They play their next five games at home this weekend in the Aggie Invitational.
