After reading accounts of the Murano-Weber controversy in The Anthem, The Battalion, The Bryan-College Station Eagle and The Houston Chronicle, I have formed my own opinion about the situation brewing at Texas A&M. All accounts brought valid points to the table; however, there is one issue I don't think was addressed in any of the articles. Maybe Murano did not deliberately lie to the students and faculty of Texas A&M. Undoubtedly though, she omitted key aspects of the truth during the selection process. I was brought up to believe that an omission of the truth is essentially a lie, especially when it is done to mislead or deceive other parties involved. By omitting the fact that she extended a detailed offer for the position of vice president of student affairs to Gen. Joe Weber July 1, Murano mislead and deceived the students, faculty and administration. At an institution where integrity is held so dear, our leaders should be held to a higher standard. Regardless of motive or specific facts, Murano's actions were obviously not above reproach. A&M deserves more from our leaders. "We are the Aggies, the Aggies are we, true to each other as Aggies should be."
