Texas A&M Head Coach Jo Evans recorded her 800th career win as a head coach Sunday as the No. 17 Aggie softball team finished the Aggie Invitational with a weekend record of 4-1.

A&M won four consecutive games in the tournament, which started Friday, with its one loss being against Stephen F. Austin on Sunday.

The Aggies opened the weekend tournament against the Utah Utes. The Aggies defeated Evans' former team 8-0 in five innings. Sophomore pitcher Rhi Kliesing held Utah to one hit, striking out five hitters.

A&M struggled offensively until the fourth inning when freshman center fielder Kelsea Orsak punched a single to score junior Alex Reynolds from third base, giving the Aggies a 1-0 lead. The Aggies scored seven runs in the fifth inning, earning a run-rule victory.

A&M played again Saturday, defeating Kent State and Utah in a double header.

Freshman pitcher Rebecca Arbino recorded her fifth win in 2009 while also notching the first shutout of her collegiate career against Kent State. She struck out a career-high nine batters in
seven innings.

Freshman Taryn Broussard led A&M in the 5-0 win against the Golden Flashes, going 3-3 at the plate with a run and a RBI from the designated player position.

The Aggie squad then completed its sweep of the Utes with a 7-5 win.

Kliesing threw all eight innings of the game, allowing five runs, 14 hits, two walks and striking out four.

Though Utah pulled a seventh inning two-run rally to send the game into extra innings, the Aggies scored two more runs in the top of the eighth and held the Utes scoreless in the bottom of the inning to secure the win.

The Aggies lost junior shortstop Macie Morrow to injury for the remainder of the tournament after a foul ball struck her face off of her bat.

Evans said the team will not know how long Morrow will be out until she meets with doctors Tuesday.
