Women's basketball team falls at Baylor

Once again, the Texas A&M women's basketball team fell short against No. 5 Baylor in a 64-60 defeat Saturday in Waco.
With a victory, the No. 8 Aggies could have clinched second place in the Big 12 standings. However, Texas A&M (23-6, 11-4) drops back to fourth in the conference due to a head-to-head loss at Iowa State.
"We are going to go out and play hard just like we did tonight," senior Danielle Gant told Aggieathletics.com. "We are not going to fall back, because we lost this game here at Baylor. We are going to go out strong in the Big 12 Tournament.
Gant finished off her final regular season with her 18th career double-double. The forward tallied team-highs in points and rebounds with 16 and 13, respectively. Gant also tied a career-high with six steals.
Unlike Gant, senior Takia Starks in front of the Baylor crowd. The Aggies' leading scorer was held to 4-13 from the field and 0-5 from beyond the arc.
"(Jessica) Morrow was doing a great job defensively on Starks," Texas A&M head coach Gary Blair told Aggieathletics.com. "Sometimes, it's hard to shoot over her."
Offensively, Texas A&M got off to a slow start, shooting only 31% in the first half. The Aggies went into the lockeroom at halftime with a 10-point deficit before regaining their composure in the second half.
"We fought back awfully hard in the second half to get back in the ballgame," said Blair. "Our kids took coaching at the half. We came back and we started to run our offense better. We started to get the ball to our playmakers instead of everyone thinking they could score at any time.
Baylor's production featured four players that finished with double-digit points. Senior Jessica Morrow excelled on senior night, leading the Lady Bears with 23 points.
Senior Rachel Allison also performed well in her last game at home. The forward finished with 10 points and a team-high 17 rebounds.
Texas A&M now moves on to the Big 12 Tournament in Oklahoma City as the four seed. The Aggies will have a first round bye before playing the winner of Kansas State and Colorado.
