In response to "Blockbuster. Bestseller. Feminists' biggest fear" on Thursday: The linking of "Twilight" characters to inequality of the sexes is simply unjustified. One: Yeah, Bella cooks dinner for her dad, but I bet she cooked for her ditsy mom in Phoenix, too. Two: Sure, Bella falls in love with Edward and would give up anything for him, but he falls just as hard. If loving Edward is what Bella wants to do with her life, what is wrong with that? Nothing! Archetypal feminist standards do not match every woman's life. I think it's only fair to note that Edward doesn't want her to turn into a vampire and sacrifice everything for him. He insists that she attend college and encourages her to make her family a priority. Three: Yes, every woman might be comparing the man in their life to Edward, but it's not like they haven't been comparing him to every male hero as far back as Prince Charming. If "Twilight" really is a feminist's biggest fear, then maybe feminists should be a little more open-minded.
