The No. 7 Aggies lost 15-5 to No. 9 Cal State Fullerton after allowing eight runs, all of them earned, and seven hits in the final inning.
"Down two runs in the ninth, I liked our chances at home," said A&M Head Coach Rob Childress. "But we weren't able to finish it in the top of the ninth. They came and took it from us."
A&M stranded five runners in the first three innings and stranded nine runners total in the game. Childress said his team failed to cash in on opportunities early in the game and it was the little things that made the difference.
"There are no moral victories," Childress said. "We lost the game and the scoreboard reflects that."
The Aggies answered most of Cal State Fullerton's scores in the first five innings of the game. After falling behind 2-0 in the top of the third inning, A&M answered with a two-run home run by junior second baseman Brodie Greene in the bottom half.
The Aggies took the lead in the bottom of the fourth when senior center fielder Kyle Colligan hit a solo home run over the left field wall, giving A&M a 3-2 advantage.
Colligan led the Aggies at the plate, going 3-for-4 in his best outing of the season.
The Titans started to take control in the fifth inning when junior center fielder Josh Fellhauer hit a two-run home run over the right field wall, giving Fullerton a 4-3 lead.
Despite tying the game in the bottom half, the Aggies failed to take control as the Titans stretched the lead to 7-5 by the end of the eighth inning.
The A&M bullpen fell apart in the top of the ninth inning, putting the game out of reach.
"It was our inability on the mound too," Childress said. "We weren't able to finish hitters off. I think we gave up 10 or 11 two-strike hits."
