As a bicyclist and a motorist on the this campus, I was very upset after reading this article, mainly because bike theft is being condoned by a writer for this paper and further because even if a collision occurs, getting a paint job is much cheaper than an ambulance ride and a hospital bill. Yes, it is true that many bicyclists at A&M think that stop signs only apply to vehicles, there is this nifty white line called a bike lane where bicyclists have just as much a right to be on the road as cars in the lane. Suggesting that because bicyclists are annoying they should confine themselves to the sidewalk with pedestrians only increases the danger to pedestrians and bicyclists trying to avoid them on the overcrowded walkways. There are rules that both bicyclists and motorists need to review regarding proper etiquette on the road, but not every delay on the road or dent on your hood should be blamed on bicyclists.
