"I think this win was needed," said sophomore Morgan Frank. "We have been playing a lot of conference matches against teams ranked below us. I think coming out with the win was good for the team and good for our confidence."
Texas A&M earned a 1-0 lead after taking the doubles point for the seventh consecutive match. The Aggie duo of Frank and sophomore Stephanie Davidson clinched the point, winning their match 8-4.
"We didn't start out too well in the doubles today," Kleinecke said. "The doubles point is very big. It was a crucial part of the match."
The Aggies improved the lead to 2-0 after freshman Janelle Cuthbertson won her match in straight sets 6-3, 6-0.
Cuthbertson did not start Big 12 play in the singles lineup, but was given a starting role at the No. 5 position against Nebraska on March 27. After winning against the Cornhuskers, Cuthbertson has continued to play the No. 4 and No. 5 singles positions, posting a 4-0 record.
"Janelle is still not playing as good as she can play," Kleinecke said. "She is playing so much better. I think she is really finding herself right now."
Frank extended the Aggie lead to 3-0, winning her match and keeping her singles record a perfect 8-0 in Big 12 play. During the week of March 23-29, Frank was awarded the Big 12 Player of the Week.
"She is willing to stay out there and do whatever it takes," Kleinecke said. "Right now she is really the spirit and heart of the team and with the way she has been playing she has provided a big boost for us."
The rest of the Aggies singles matches did not come as easy as the Buffaloes would force each of the remaining four singles matches to three sets, winning two of them.
